Clarisse Abujamra was born in Sao Paulo Brazil. She began her career as a dancer and had her own Studio for 10 years. She won a Fullbright Scholarship to study Graham technique with Martha Graham in New York. She taught dance at the most prestigious dance companies in Sao Paulo and throughout the country. Her work as a choreographer was recognized with awards for the brazilian production of Godspell and CrianDanca performed by the dancers of her own dance company: Dança.
At the age of 20 she began to work as an actress as well as a dancer and teacher. She ran her dance studio until 1990 when she decided to dedicate herself exclusively to acting.
Today she has brought her talent to new dimensions of theater as a director producer and translator.
Clarisse has performed in over 40 plays numerous televison soap operas, series and many of Brazil`s most successful films. Throughout her career she has received many awards in theater and film. Most recently she was awarded with the KIKITO, which is perhaps the most important film festival in Brazil, for her role in Bernard Attal `s film A Coleção Invisível as well as for Como Nossos Pais. She received awards both in Brazil and outside the country as France and Colombia for her performance in Chega de Saudades, a Lais Bodansky`s film,including at the Sao Paulo Film Festival .
She has published three books and writes regularly about culture for the Diário de Sao Paulo, Clarisse Abujamra is a well known force within the world of culture and theater in Brazil.
